Chinese New Year

On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, our February guest was Jalen’s mom. Ms. Orsini shared her Chinese New Year traditions with the children. This is the year of the pig. Chinese New Year is fifteen days long, and there is encouragement for haircuts and house cleaning for good luck. We learned that oranges are a sign of prosperity, and people give red envelopes with money inside. We also learned about lantern decorations, the dragon dance, and that Chinese dragons are a symbol of power. We would like to thank Ms. Orsini for her visit!

Tooth Fairy Visit

The early years in a child's development are the best time for a child to learn about oral health and to develop a positive attitude about good dental habits. The tooth fairy visited our school and talked to our children about why it is important to keep our teeth healthy. We learned that we need our teeth to chew food, speak, and have a healthy smile. A healthy mouth is part of a healthy body. With dental health activities, our children learned how to keep their teeth healthy. Brushing, eating tooth-friendly foods, flossing, and going to see the dentist are just some of the topic we learned about.

100th Day of School

Our Butterfly classroom recently celebrated the 100th day of school and being 100 days smarter. A fun time was had by all!

Join Us for Our Acts of Kindness

As part of our Montessori curriculum, we instill in our children the love for all things living and non-living. It is essential for children to learn the importance of giving and caring through acts of kindness. Let’s come together to teach our children how little acts can make a big difference.

We will be collecting donations for the following:

  • February: Liberty Humane Society (animal shelter) - Food, beds, toys, and blankets.
  • April: St. Lucy’s Homeless Shelter of Jersey City - Jackets, canned food, and toiletries.
  • June: Support Our Troops - Body wash, toiletries, and playing cards.

The donation box will be available at your child’s cubby area. Let’s do our part in making the world a better place.

Robot or Not?

Our Butterfly Classroom used their knowledge of robot structure and function to determine if guests to their classroom were robotic or alive. The lesson laid the foundation for the spring unit Rocky Looks at Living Things, bridging the first half of the year's work to the last.
